Headteachers Welcome

On behalf of the children, staff, and governors, I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you. I hope you will get a sense of the warm, caring, inclusive ethos we have at Bishopstone and see the exciting learning opportunities and enriching experiences our children absorb here so you can begin to understand what makes Bishopstone the wonderful place that it is.

I’m sure that all headteachers feel exactly the same about their schools, but I know that Bishopstone Church of England Primary School is a very special place. I am delighted that you are interested in finding out a little more about us.

We are a small school, situated at the foot of the Ridgeway, positioned next to the duckpond in the heart of Bishopstone village. We are part of a small community which has an interesting historical and geographical background. The school itself is surrounded by natural countryside, which is a source of enrichment for many curriculum activities throughout the year.

The school is a Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School for children from 4 to 11 years, with a strong link to our local church, St Mary's in Bishopstone village, although all children are welcome and religious education is non-denominational.

Our philosophy and ethos reflect our Christian values and we have well behaved, motivated and confident children who think of others and are keen to learn. Christian values form the basis for all relationships and teaching in the school.

We know and respect all of our children, treating them as unique individuals. We provide a positive environment for learning, opening up horizons of hope and aspirations for them. We want our children to leave Bishopstone Primary School equipped with the self-esteem, resilience, empathy, kindness, and ambition to succeed as lifelong learners and members of the wider world.

Visions and Values

Vision

To nurture our children's curiosity and creativity through partnership with our community, enabling them to be the best versions of themselves.

We will grow together in … Curiosity, Creativity, Community.

Values

Our school has adopted the three core Christian values of Friendship, Thankfulness and Perseverance.

• Friendship: Friends love each other the same way Christ loves us (John 15:12-13)
• Perseverance: And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
• Thankfulness: This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

To underpin our school vision and values, we have taken inspiration from the parable of the mustard seed: Mark 4:30-32.

Jesus told them:

“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” (Mark 4:30-32).
