Welcome

Cheddar First School is a friendly and inclusive school where there is an ethos of caring and sharing and respect for the individual.

Cheddar First School and Preschool currently welcomes children from 6 months to 9 years old, within one beautiful campus set against the backdrop of Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip Hills. The site is deceivingly large with ten school classes and three nursery rooms along with a substantial field, two whole school playgrounds and separate Foundation Stage outdoor learning areas and gardens. The site also has a forest school area and pond, both of which are used by all year groups.

At Cheddar First School and Preschool, we value and nurture individuality and inspire a life-long love of learning through our creative curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities. The school has a choir, school council, pupil and staff well-being groups. There are also opportunities to learn musical instruments or take part in team sports so there really is something for everyone! Through our emphasis on oracy skills, children are encouraged to question, challenge and communicate their opinions positively, whilst taking risks with their learning and building their resilience. As active learners, they reach their full potential and achieve success in both academic development and emotional intelligence.

With an incredible campus like ours, outdoor learning is an integral element of our curriculum. Children from 6 months to 9 years old make weekly visits to our forest school area, where they can put their problem solving and team work skills to the test. Wellies and outdoor clothes are an essential part of the uniform at Cheddar First as the weather is not always on our side! We also have a school pond and plastic bottle greenhouse to inspire little green fingers and nature lovers of the future.

We are incredibly proud of our children, staff and school and would love to share them with you.
