Overview

We are an 11-18, non-selective academy where everyone, staff and students, strive to be the best they can be. Our aim is simple ‘to achieve success for all’. We are proud of our warm and welcoming community in which everyone participates to make a positive contribution. The language spoken is about aiming to be the best we can be. Teachers are unrelenting and ensure there are no limits or barriers to student achievement. Students enjoy their school lives and are proud of their school. Every decision we make has the students’ best interests at the core.

Expectations are high and our students’ approach to the community and learning is fantastic. At Churchdown the small things matter and it is these marginal gains that impact on the holistic educational experience on offer. We encourage participation in a wide range of educational and life enriching activities, finding a variety of ways to celebrate success and individuality. By the time students finish their education with us, they will have been challenged academically and nurtured into fine young adults.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to be a school where student development and learning are at the centre of everything we do.

Students are expected to strive for personal excellence and demonstrate a commitment to learning as they fulfil their potential. Our community is a nurturing and caring one where students are encouraged to show compassion, friendship and support towards one another.

We aim to provide an education which is fully inclusive, where every child is valued for who they are and who they can become.

At Churchdown School the education we provide is guided by values of integrity, resilience, respect, ambition and tolerance. These values are particularly important to us as we develop the students into lifelong learners and prepare them for a life beyond school.

AboutUs

Everyone in the Churchdown community is encouraged to live their life by three values: A relentless focus on high standards. A belief that there are no excuses or barriers to learning or achievement. A warm, welcoming community where everyone ‘does their bit’ to create a positive learning environment for all. In practice, this means that our students are expected to try their best at all times, take pride in themselves and to always be considerate of others. We offer a broad curriculum at Churchdown; every student is encouraged to study the subjects that they are interested in. The diversity ranges from Mathematics to Creative Media, to a wide choice of vocational subjects. Every student is expected to perform at the highest level. As a result, each student deserves and gets the teaching and pastoral care that suits him/her best. Teachers at Churchdown are unrelenting in the aim of ensuring that each student achieves examination results which will enable them to be highly successful in the future. At Churchdown we recognise that students are not the same and require different levels of support and challenge. We are proud of our ‘child centred’ approach to education and we aim to ensure that our students get an education that cannot be bettered elsewhere. Expectations are high and our students’ approach to the community and learning is fantastic. At Churchdown the small things matter and it is these marginal gains that impact on the holistic educational experience on offer. By the time students finish their education with us, they will have been challenged academically and developed into fine young adults.

Our commitment to your career

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOUR CAREER

Opportunities for staff development are broad and varied. All staff are supported with clear performance management targets which are set in line with standards and provide an opportunity for professional development. Coaching partnerships continue to exist at all levels in the school. The school is committed to sharing best practice and works closely with external agencies and trainers to make this a reality. Staff joining us early in their career will be given a mentor or coach and we have a nationally recognised NQT programme.  We also have a strong school-to-school focus working with a large number of local secondary and primary schools to offer opportunities for staff at all schools. We look at colleagues’ development holistically and offer leadership development programmes and coaching at all levels.

Ultimately we recognise that great schools ‘look after’ their staff and it is without a doubt a key priority to ensure that we challenge and support staff in a nurturing environment to be the best they can be.
