About us

Courtney Primary School is in the heart of Kingswood and combines a close-knit community with a high-quality education within bright, modern and inspiring facilities and grounds.

Our vision of, working together to develop lifelong learners with a strong sense of self who are active participants in their communities, underpins all that we do. We are committed to providing the best teaching across a stimulating and varied curriculum. Academic success is important to us, but equally we aim for all our pupils to leave fit for the 21st Century armed with confidence, resilience and the ability to adapt to inevitable changes and challenges. With children knowing their worth, being able to form strong relationships and understanding their voice is valued. We want every child to be the best version of themselves they can be.

Our tight-knit community is what makes us special. We have a compassionate and professional staff team with a dedicated sports coach, art specialist and family link worker. We have an active team of Governors and a hardworking and motivated Friends of Courtney parent and carer body. As well as supportive parents and carers with a range of expertise and experiences.

We believe we are fortunate to be teaching the future leaders of our community and are excited to see what the world will look like, with our children at the helm. Our children are our greatest success, so while the website will give you a snapshot of what happens at Courtney, please come and pay us a visit to see it all in action.

Our School Motto

‘I am, because we are.’

Ubuntu

This motto is based on the idea of success, it is based on not only one person’s success, but all of us succeeding. That what makes us a human are the things we do to support one another and in doing so, support our community. No one comes into the world fully formed. We would not know how to think, or walk, or speak, or behave as human beings unless we learned it from other human beings. Where the idea of community is one of the building blocks of society. Ubuntu has its roots in humanist African philosophy. Our school is unique due to its community and our motto is based on this philosophy.
