The College Campus is located on three sites within easy walking distance of each other. The South Site houses the Faculties of Cultural Studies and Visual and Performing Arts. It is also the tutor base for the Year 7 students. On the North site the College has a wide range of Sports Facilities, which include Sports Hall, a Gymnasium, two fitness suites, an All Weather Multi Use Games Area and a Swimming Pool. This is housed in the Helston Sport and Leisure Centre which shares our campus and with whom we have close links.
All the students are encouraged to make as much use as possible of these facilities during the College day and when formal lessons end. There is a wide range of sports activities available. Information Technology is well resourced in the College with seven designated computer rooms, together with smaller computer outlets throughout the College giving access to excellent information processing facilities. These are supplemented by other equipment including satellite dishes which geographers use to study world weather and enable language students to sample European TV or radio programmes. Teaching is enhanced across the whole College through the use of computer-linked, interactive whiteboards in the majority of classrooms and every classroom has a computer and digital projector.
Helston Community College is an established centre for it's out-of-hours learning facilities. At the heart of our provision, is our Homework Club, which is open from 3.15-4.15pm for all students. The centre offers the opportunity for students to complete homework, coursework, to engage in independent study or revision, and to access the facilities of our College Library, which has a well-equipped computer suite. Help is available from members of staff.
The College also runs many Clubs and Activities at the end of the day. Always popular are our wide range of Sports activities, as are our Performing Arts opportunities which include: Drama workshops, Art clubs and a whole range of Music activities. In addition, staff run a range of other clubs and activities after College, which vary from term to term.
We believe that Helston Community College is a unique place and has something special to offer its students; it is a truly comprehensive College. We also have Sixth Form which is amongst the largest in Cornwall, with approximately 250 students enrolled on courses recruiting from the College's Year 11 and also from other secondary schools in the area. Our aim at Post 16 is to provide an excellent education and the skills to allow students to make the transition from College to the next stage of their lives. We are proud of our College and students for good reasons.
