About Us

Little Hayes Nursery School is an early years education provision based at Symington Road, Frenchay Road and Hillfields Library.

Staff employed at any of our settings hold qualifications ranging from Level 2 to Level 7 and all receive updated training opportunities.

Children and families are valued and treated with respect.

Our gardens are amongst the most beautiful and best you will see of any early years setting!

Young children learn through play, investigating and exploring. They need time to explore the world in which they live.

Play needs to be carefully planned, and extended using appropriate teaching and  preparation. Materials and equipment need to be provided that are appropriate and the environment needs to be thought about to ensure it supports learning to achieve the very best for each individual child.

Skilled educators intervene to provide for a child’s needs and do this by knowing what a child can do already and plan opportunities which build upon their interests in ways which are unique to them. In our sessions children have varied learning experiences each term and these are selected to provide new and challenging experiences.

Our environments are safe, attractive and stimulating. They are made suitable for children of all ages and we use many varying resources including many that are  natural and recyclable. We use displays to show parents what children learn  and we use photographs a lot to capture learning which we also send to parents or we include them into learning diaries.

Welcome

Welcome to Little Hayes and Speedwell Nursery Schools. We are two of twelve local authority maintained nursery schools in Bristol offering high quality early years education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

In 2018, Little Hayes Nursery and Speedwell Nursery School federated to form the Little Hayes and Speedwell Nursery Schools Federation. Together we have a strong shared ethos and believe that we provide a learning community where children, families and staff learn with and from each other in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration. We are all ‘learning and growing together’.

We believe children should be excited to come to nursery, stimulated and challenged and begin to develop a life-long love of learning. We are passionate about continuing to provide outstanding learning opportunities for our children and for our families to feel welcomed, supported and included in their child’s education.

Each setting is supported by an amazing, dedicated and experienced team who are passionate about giving children the very best start in life.
