Overview

The Nottingham Academy, which was formed in 2009, is one of the largest Academies in the United Kingdom.

It caters for up to 3800 pupils aged 3 to 19. The primary phase caters for up to 810 pupils aged 3 to 11.

The academy benefited from a £50 million investment which has provided state-of-the-art facilities across three sites:

  1. Greenwood Road - providing accommodation for pupils from Nursery through to Year 11
  2. Ransom Road - providing accommodation for pupils from Year 7 through to Year 11
  3. Sneinton Boulevard - providing accommodation for Year 7 pupils and the Post-16 provision.

As the academy is so large, it is organised on a 'schools within a school' model with three Heads of School and a Principal who oversees, leads and manages the whole Academy. Although operating across three sites, the dedicated team of staff working in the Primary phase, Secondary phase and the Sixth Form centre, work closely together to make sure the Nottingham Academy remains an outstanding organisation.

The academy is sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT) which is recognised nationally as a leader of educational best practice,   specialises in transforming schools operating in areas of economic and social disadvantage in order to to help children realise their potential.

About Us

Nottingham Academy continues to be a GOOD school– Ofsted, 2015.

Our whole academy community is single-minded in its belief that every pupil can achieve, irrespective of their starting point.

We are traditional in our approach to standards in order to maintain a positive and respectful climate for learning.  We rigorously and consistently enforce our code of conduct, expect pupils to attend regularly and contribute to the life of our academy. The strong relationships which exist between our staff and young people ensures that our academy is a calm, orderly and purposeful environment where pupils can enjoy their learning, make accelerated progress and feel safe.

Following an extensive capital building programme the academy provides new and refurbished buildings which offer pupils and staff an outstanding learning environment.

The academy offers a fantastic setting for training and development and is dedicated to the professional development of staff, including opportunities for research. The GDFT maximises its status and size by running trust wide training and CPD events for staff. This ensures a highly trained, empowered and stable workforce.

The GDFT has a central team of staff whose responsibility it is to offer outstanding levels of support and service, whilst taking away the bureaucratic burdens that stop staff getting on with the job of working with pupils, staff and parents. The range of central services includes HR, finance, health and safety, procurement, catering, IT and buildings.
