Overview

Pine Ridge and Lorraine Infant schools are both 1 form entry schools catering for children between 2 and 7 years of age. The infant schools feed into Cordwalles Junior School, which is 2 form entry. Our Pine Ridge site is home to our Children's Centre which provides support services to our families. Our schools promote inclusion and mutual respect within a safe, caring and stimulating environment. We have spacious, well-resourced buildings and outstanding outdoor learning environments. The staff embrace their learning themes and made their own classrooms magical experiences for the children. As you walk around the schools, you will be transported from Wonderland, through enchanted forests, into castles and take a leap of faith by walking through a wardrobe into Narnia!

Our mission is to provide outstanding education for all the children in our school community. We believe that education is a unique experience which should equip children with all the skills they need to be successful, active members of their community and to enjoy all that the 21st Century has to offer.

Our philosophy is clear - if children are enjoying what they are doing, they will learn.  Our aim is that children will be engaged in learning that develops their knowledge, skills and understanding, challenges them, excites their imagination and fosters creativity. We believe that children should have high expectations of themselves, be proud of their achievements and respect others.

AboutUs

We are an innovative, creative academy where the quality of children's learning and their progress are the main focus in everything we do.

We have created a welcoming, caring community within a stimulating environment where respect for others and personal responsibility is nurtured.  Within our academy, every child and adult is valued and we actively encourage social and moral awareness, self-discipline and a striving for doing one's best in all areas - academic and social.

In January 2018 Pine Ridge & Lorraine Infant Schools and Cordwalles Junior School came under the leadership of one senior team led by Executive Headteacher, Mrs Claire-Louise West.

Cordwalles became an academy within GLF Schools in December 2013, with Pine Ridge and Lorraine following in February 2017. Through this partnership, we benefit from sharing outstanding resources and practice across a range of schools.

Working for Us

Ofsted:

"All leaders have high aspirations for pupils’ achievement. As a result of these expectations, pupils are making good progress across the curriculum."

"The headteacher has extended delegation of leadership throughout the school. Consequently, changes that improve pupils’ learning happen quickly."

"The academy trust has worked collaboratively with school leaders. This has provided valuable additional expertise to develop the school’s plans to improve."

"Parents are positive about the school. They value the openness of staff and the encouraging atmosphere that prevails."

"The most able pupils make good progress. Teachers set challenging work that extends pupils’ learning effectively."

"Pupils’ behaviour is good. This is because all staff have high expectations and ensure that unacceptable behaviour is dealt with fairly and consistently."

The Schools are located on many bus routes, and approximately 2 miles from Camberly Station.

So, what are the benefits of working for a school in the GLF family of schools?

We are a group of schools rooted in providing the best possible education for children and we are not motivated by ‘making a profit’. This means we enable each Headteacher and their team of leaders to ensure that the work of their school is of the highest standard allowing children and young people to have high aspirations.

We continually offer excellent CPD opportunities as well as supported career development across the family of schools.

Over the past three years, we have trained and developed 15 leaders who have been promoted to headship, deputy headship, assistant headship and school business managers.

Our family of schools regularly network and collaborate to share insight, expertise and best practice not only within our own family but also beyond. (For example last term, Glyn School hosted an Independent Thinking ‘Big Day Out’, where some of the UK’s leading educational innovators, thinkers, authors and practitioners came together to share ideas, insights and strategies.)

As a part of GLF Schools, you will have access to a huge network of support including:

-          Support challenge meetings

-          Data analysis and target setting

-          Ofsted preparation

-          Coaching and support for teachers

-          Leadership development

-          Middle leadership

-          Leadership Review

-          Mock Ofsted

-      Regular Forums - Headteachers, School Business Managers, Leading Practitioners, Outstanding Teachers, NQTs, English, Science, Maths...and more

We welcome teachers of the highest standard, who are enthusiastic, motivated and knowledgeable in order to provide an environment that facilitates developed learning.

Local Area

Cordwalles Junior School is located in Camberley, which has a good mix of accommodation, independent shops and high street names as well as a purpose built, modern entertainment complex “The Atrium”, featuring a wide selection of restaurants, a children’s indoor pay area, cinema and bowling. Both The Mall Camberley and The Atrium shopping centre have experienced a flurry of new tenants since the start of 2014, which are a welcome addition to the already vibrant town centre. The surrounding villages have an incredible history starting in the neo-lithic period, moving through to a Royal hunting ground at Bagshot Park in the 14th century and notorious highway men in the 17 and 18th centuries.  The military arrived in 1853 and the National Rifle Association came to Bisley in 1890.

There are 2 museums with free entry:  the Royal Logistical Corps Museum at Deepcut Barracks, and the Surrey Heath Museum in Camberley where the heathland story is a permanent display.  The Surrey Heath Archaeology Centre at Bagshot houses many exciting finds and gives regular talks by resident and visiting experts.

Frimley Lodge Park is a multi-award winning “Green Flag” park and includes access to the Canal, a miniature railway, pitch and putt, “Flourish” community garden, BBQ hire, play areas and sports pitches.  Health and fitness opportunities are numerous including two purpose built leisure centres (the Arena and Lightwater), private gyms, numerous golf courses (including Camberley Heath, Pine Ridge and Windlesham) and water sports on Mytchett Lake.

Camberley railway station is situated south of the town centre on the Ascot to Guildford line. It is connected to Guildford, Aldershot and Ascot by South West Trains with two trains per hour in either direction. Nearby Blackwater station (situated perpendicular to the A30 on the border of Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire) on the North Downs Line is operated by First Great Western, with trains running to Reading, Guildford, Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

Several bus companies operate routes through Camberley including: First Berkshire & The Thames Valley to Bracknell; Arriva Guildford & West Surrey to Guildford via Woking; Stagecoach South to Aldershot, Basingstoke and Farnborough; and Dicksons Travel to Staines and Woking.[15]

Teaching and Learning Our Schools

Thematic teaching and learning

This is a way of teaching and learning, whereby many areas of the curriculum are connected together and integrated within a theme.

What are the benefits of thematic teaching and learning?

A thematic approach to teaching and learning allows learning to be more natural and less fragmented than a school day that is time divided into different subject areas, and where children practice exercises related to what the teacher thinks up. Literacy is allowed to grow progressively, with vocabulary linked and with spelling and sentence writing being frequently, yet smoothly, reinforced. Thematic teaching and learning guides connected ideas to follow on easily.

This is how we, as adults, learn new things. Don't we start at a point of interest and branch out from it like ripples from a stone thrown in the water?

What are the results of working thematically?

The results of working thematically are that children will often:

  • have fun
  • be more actively involved
  • develop learning skills more quickly as each one is connected to and reinforced by the other
  • be more confident and better motivated
  • present fewer discipline problems

For teachers, working thematically can result in:

  • finding teaching more fun
  • finding teaching less hard work
  • finding teaching challenging and exciting

Our creative, connected curriculum at Cordwalles Junior School is based on the National Curriculum, with the following amongst its aims:

Interconnected knowledge and skills for lifelong learning– linking learning across the subjects, breaking down barriers and developing common sets of learning skills

Knowing, showing and celebrating success – helping learners recognise the progress they are making through on-going review and reflections.  Collating the broad range of evidence and measures of success

Creating memorable learning experiences– planned and sudden learning experiences within and beyond the classroom

At the heart of this are our pupils, who are:

Successful learners – who enjoy learning, making progress and achieving

Confident individuals – who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives

Responsible citizens – who make a positive contribution to society

This is achievable through personalising our curriculum to reflect the uniqueness of our school, and our community.
