About Us

Pooh Corner Day Nursery and Preschool is an independent care and educational organisation. It was founded in 1990 based on Mary Regan and Sarah Bradley’s love for early years education. It is situated in a spacious Victorian house with large windows which welcomes the day light into our rooms. Our outdoor facilities invite children to explore their physical potential and integrates all the other areas of learning offered indoors.

At Pooh Corner we establish a strong link with our families as it is of paramount importance that we know every child as an individual. The children’s background, and home experiences are valued and integrated in our practice.

Our focus is to encourage independence and nurture self-esteem in children. Stimulating them with meaningful play experiences and activities aimed at nurturing the excitement of new thoughts, imagination and discovery. Also the personal and physical care of each individual child is deemed equally important.

Our educational approach is based on High Scope which is a child centred approach with emphasis on active participatory learning. Children's interests and choices are at the heart of our educational approach. Children construct their own knowledge through interactions with the world and the people around them. In this active learning environment, adults expand children's thinking with diverse materials and nurturing interactions.

Our Ethos and Philosophy

We provide a high standard of care, learning opportunities and education in a secure, homely and relaxed environment. Our highly qualified Early Years Teachers and Practitioners are trained to value, support and celebrate children’s development and achievements. At Pooh Corner we see each child as an exclusive individual who sees the world and develops at his or her own pace.

We conceive play as the ‘child’s job’. Therefore, quality free flow play is based on each child’s developmental stages and interests.

Through a balance of child initiated play and adult suggested play our Early Years Teachers and Practitioners nurture our children's love and freedom to learn and make discoveries. At Pooh Corner the children are given the opportunity to explore the world, develop independence, confidence and self-esteem supporting all areas of their development.

We believe that multiculturalism is an important feature in society. At Pooh Corner children’s racial, cultural and religious background are respected and included in our planning, resources, play experiences and menu. Our inclusion policy ensures that all children independent of their abilities and developmental stage are offered quality play opportunities.
