Welcome to Richmond Hill Academy

Principal’s Welcome

"I am delighted to be addressing you as the Principal of Richmond Hill Academy and that we are a part of The GORSE Academies Trust, a Trust which has a national reputation for transforming schools. The children of Richmond Hill had not, historically, received the education they deserve, and the community felt rightfully feel let down. However, with the support of The GORSE Academies Trust, a strong leadership team and the dedication and commitment of our staff members, we have transformed Richmond Hill Academy into the exceptional school that its community deserves.

Put simply, we want every child at Richmond Hill to flourish; to be safe, happy, to experience a wide range of learning opportunities and to leave our school engaged and confident learners. We want to be firmly rooted in our local community and to make a positive contribution to the lives of others. We want parents to send their children to Richmond Hill Academy with full confidence that they will make excellent progress, be loved and be excited to come to school each day. I know that the staff of RHA are fully committed to ensuring that every child receives the very best education and care; we continue to work tirelessly to ensure the school continues to thrive and develop.

We value enormously the views and comments of our parents and the wider school community. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you wish to discuss any aspect of our work."

Vision and Values

Together we believe, flourish and succeed

Our vision statement was written by a cross section of staff and is known and understood by our pupils. The ethos of our school is strongly embedded across the academy and we talk about the words of our vision every week: in assembly, in lessons, in the staff room; we will ensure that it guides us and grounds us in all that we are striving to achieve at Richmond Hill Academy.

TOGETHER

We know that we are better when we work together. Learning is a partnership between home and school and we will continue to focus on enabling parents to be a crucial part of their child’s school life. As a staff team, we will support each other and challenge one another to provide the highest quality of teaching and learning for the children.

BELIEVE

The children have become familiar with the following words: “If you believe you can, you probably will. If you believe you can’t, you definitely won’t. Believing is what gets you off the starting blocks.” At Richmond Hill we will ensure that the children believe in themselves as learners and as valued members of our community. We will believe in ourselves – believe that we can build an exceptional school and achieve the very highest standards.

FLOURISH

We will work tirelessly to ensure that every child at Richmond Hill Academy makes excellent progress in their learning; we will nurture the whole child through creating an environment that allows them to develop emotionally, physically and academically. We will achieve this through an exciting and enriching curriculum, taught by excellent teachers and with the support of highly skilled pastoral team.

SUCCEED

Fundamental to our vision for the children of Richmond Hill Academy is that each and every one of them should leave our school ready and eager for the next stage in their education, confident learners who will go on to make a positive contribution in their secondary school and beyond. We want our children to leave Richmond Hill Academy equipped with the knowledge, skills and self-belief that will allow them to direct their own lives.

Values

Our work every day is underpinned by our four core values:

COURAGE

We know it takes courage for our children to take risks in the classroom (not being afraid to make mistakes), to have confidence in themselves as learners and to aim high.

ASPIRATIONS

We know that all of us need goals and that our children deserve to have high aspirations for themselves.

RESPECT

We know that every person in our school and local community deserves respect; our children are learning the ways in which we can show respect in everything that we do.

EXCELLENCE

We aim for excellence in every aspect of our work; we will be satisfied with nothing less for the children in Richmond Hill Academy.

OUR TRUST

About The Gorse Academies Trust

trust_logo.png

GORSE has a well-known reputation for changing the deal for children and young adults who come from some of the most impoverished parts of the country. Our central mission is to ensure that we play a significant role in removing the stubborn link between poverty and academic underperformance. Consequently, our students and our professionals are in the vanguard of the national drive which seeks to prove that where teaching is excellent, leadership inspiring and behaviour standards exemplary all children excel regardless of background.

Because of the trust’s reputation, we are also seeing the development of a new approach to academisation which is bringing already strong and successful schools forward to convert as new partners within GORSE. Those schools recognise the enormous advantage that comes from belonging to a network of excellence in both leadership and teaching, and we as a trust recognise that there is much to be gained when great organisations are brought together.
