Overview

Rushey Mead Primary School is a popular, successful, thriving school situated to the north of the city of Leicester. We have approximately 580 pupils on roll. We were recognised as being a ‘Good’ school by OFSTED in 2018.

Rushey Mead Primary serves a community that is rich in a diversity of language, faith and culture. We try to reflect this diversity in everything that we do. We celebrate our differences and similarities, aiming to make children feel both secure in and proud of their many different identities.

Our children are happy, well behaved and hardworking and enjoy being a part of our school community.

We welcome applications from people who would like to join our hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic team.

About Us

The priority area is compact and mainly consists of Victorian terraced housing. We admit children from the age of 3 plus into Foundation 1 and most children transfer at the age of eleven to either Rushey Mead Secondary School or Soar Valley College. At the present time we have approximately 450 children on roll. The majority of the school population is British born. However many of their parents or grandparents have migrated to the UK from the Indian sub-continent and East Africa. We also have an increasing number of children newly arrived from abroad. Many of them have come from the Sub-continent or East Africa although we have an increasing number of families who have moved to the UK from Eastern Europe.

The local community is very supportive of the school and the children are very enthusiastic and well-behaved. For about 95% of the children English is an additional language, the first language for the majority of the children being Gujerati. At the moment we have approximately 20 languages, apart from English, spoken by members of the school community. The largest faith community is Hindu, although we have significant numbers of children who are Muslim or Sikh. The school works hard to ensure that all children have the opportunity to enjoy the whole curriculum. We have a strong, and continually developing, policy of supporting children’s learning through the use of their first language. We believe that the community that we serve is entitled to expect the school to have high expectations of their children and to strive to ensure that their children achieve their maximum potential.

We are particularly keen to involve parents, teachers and children in an educational partnership to support learning. School Buildings and Grounds. The school is mainly housed in a well maintained, two storey, early 1900s brick building. Much of the building has been refurbished. All of the classrooms are of a good size and are light and airy. We have two large halls, a studio, an ICT room, a library, a parents room and a staff workroom. To the rear of the school are hard and grassed play areas and a staff car park. Our sports field is adjacent to the school.
