Welcome to SWPS

We champion each and every child, unlocking their unique potential to thrive as students and as people.

At Sir William Perkins’s School, students are at our heart. We expect the best from them and in return they can expect the best from us – both in terms of teaching of the highest quality, and in receiving the tailored support and attention they need to achieve.

We know our students, their talents, hopes and aspirations; and in turn we seek staff who actively encourage our students to explore their interests and achieve their potential in an innovative and inspiring atmosphere.

Founded in 1725, we are a warm and friendly independent school for 600 students aged 11-18. Set in 13 acres of attractive green-belt grounds in Surrey, SWPS is a beautiful environment with first-rate facilities, in which both staff and students flourish.

Easily reached by road or public transport, we are a two-minute walk from Chertsey Train Station, with direct links to London Waterloo and surrounding towns.

Working with Us

SWPS staff are professional, highly qualified and knowledgeable; they are enthusiastic and passionate about their own subjects, as well as understanding the importance of the breadth of the educational experience that we provide.

Our school is characterised by a warm and welcoming atmosphere and supportive approach. Expectations of staff are high but equally, personal workloads are carefully considered by the Senior Leadership Team. There are plenty of opportunities for professional development and a generous inset budget. All staff are equally valued for their part in the overall success of the school and there is a strong sense of fun and humour.

Our governors are keen to ensure that staff remuneration is competitive and continually review our overall staff package to ensure that we attract and retain the very best teachers, giving our student community the best possible advantage.

Academic Ethos

We believe that academic success is founded on knowing every individual and providing an ambitious academic enrichment programme which engages all students, allowing individual strengths to flourish. With a curriculum which incorporates interdisciplinary thinking and ambitious content, students follow a personalised academic journey which allows their passions to thrive.

With life beyond Sir William Perkins’s on the horizon, we follow a curriculum that equips each student with the means to develop their intellectual abilities as well as their personal and social values.

Learning here is not just about passing exams, but about a shared love of intellectual adventure. All students follow an exciting and dynamic curriculum that encourages innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration. Students are able to discover their strengths and interests via a broad, balanced range of academic, cultural and creative subjects.

Our outstanding teachers’ passion and enthusiasm inspires students to develop a genuine, lifelong love of learning and encourages students to think independently. Academic success is founded on staff knowing each and every individual student; success that comes in many different forms, be that in external examinations, national competitions, or securing a place at a high-tariff university. Students have the opportunity to personalise their learning journey and develop independence of mind, supported by adaptive teaching, ensuring all students achieve academically.

SWPS Digital Strategy

At SWPS our vision is for our students to be confident users of digital technology, equipped with the skills, integrity and confidence to excel in their education whilst preparing for their future careers.

Digital Aims (Teaching and Learning)

To use technology to enhance current good practice and to drive forward teaching and learning at SWPS.

To strive continually to provide our students with the best possible access to learning.

At SWPS our vision is for our students to be confident users of digital technology, equipped with the skills, integrity and confidence to excel in their education whilst preparing for their future careers. To offer our students access to a variety of learning styles.

To encourage independent learning and equip our students for adult life.

To have a positive impact on teacher workload and wellbeing.

We Believe

Learning does not stop as soon as you walk out of the school gate, it can take place anywhere at any time.

Everyone at SWPS should be connected digitally to communicate, share and engage in learning (students, teachers and parents).

The Concept

To ensure that every student has access to an Apple iPad both in school and at home.

Students bring the device to school every day and expect to use it for learning in and between lessons every day, anywhere in school.
