Head Teacher's Welcome
Ofsted judged our school to be GOOD in March 2013. We are very proud of this achievement and know that there is much to celebrate at our school. Inspectors recognized that Drighlington Primary School is a friendly, inclusive school that values every individual. We treat everyone equally and have a high commitment to respect which underpins all of our work.
We work together to reach aspirational and achievable targets. We have five clear and simple school improvement targets that everyone understands and this ensures a team approach.
We believe in the philosophy of Every Child Matters and this supports our approach of nurture and ensures every child reaches their full potential. We ensure that the expectations, expertise, and commitment of the staff creates an ethos where children can learn in a safe and happy environment.
We create an environment where the principles of teamwork are essential and understood by children and adults
One of our greatest strengths is our commitment to nurturing children as individuals. We also put great emphasis on ensuring everyone, including children, understands their role in keeping the school a safe and happy place.
We believe that children need to experience a wide range of learning opportunities, have challenge and develop independence and high self-esteem to achieve their full potential. We plan a creative curriculum that gives children time to reflect upon, contribute to and have ownership of content.
Children are encouraged to explore learning in a range of ways and to have responsibility for meeting thier own targets. We work with guided groups, especially for English and Maths lessons, and this ensures that staff can assess learning progress and plan close the gap action where needed. Our children report that they feel safe, happy and that learning is FUN.
Children understand and can talk about our whole school targets which are:
- be creative
- be independent
- improve reading
- improve writing
- improve maths
