Overview

Welcome to St. Bernard’s Preparatory School.

We are a Catholic school, teaching the Catholic faith and living out the Gospel values which are shared by all faiths and are the foundation of all our relationships and the daily life of our school. We welcome and embrace children of all faiths and we recognise and celebrate our similarities and differences, developing mutual respect, understanding and tolerance.

We recognise the value and uniqueness of each individual, both child and adult. We celebrate the talents and gifts of each child and enable them to develop to their full potential spiritually, morally, academically, socially and physically. Our children are happy, courteous, confident, articulate young citizens, committed to the ideal of service to others.

We work in partnership with parents, recognising that they are the first and best educators of their child. We consider ourselves to be very privileged that parents have entrusted us with the care and education of their child. We ensure that parents are kept fully informed of their child’s progress.

We are committed to offering a broad, balanced, creative and challenging curriculum, enriched by experiences and opportunities which enhance and consolidate the learning process. Small class sizes enable our team of highly qualified, caring, committed and enthusiastic teachers to be responsive to the needs of the individual child ensuring continuity and progression for all our children. We have developed a wide and varied range of after-school activities which broaden the curriculum and enrich the children’s lives. Children are encouraged to develop new skills.

We are proud of our reputation as a school with a strong ethos and nurturing pastoral care coupled with academic excellence reflected in consistently outstanding results in local and national tests.

Our school motto ‘Dieu Mon Abri’, meaning ‘God is my Shelter’, is an inspiring reminder of God’s love for each one of us. The three swords represent ‘Love, Work and Prayer’ which underpin and permeate the life of our school.

About Us

Mission Statement

With God as our shelter and Christ as our guide, the mission of St Bernard’s Preparatory School is to educate towards love and service to God, each other and the wider community. Through our broad, balanced curriculum we will develop an understanding of each faith and the values we share. We will treat each person with respect, knowing we are special and unique.

Aims

  • Initiate worship, celebration and prayer within the curriculum as a natural part of school life.
  • To nurture a love of learning, and to develop, as fully as possible, each child’s academic potential and talents.
  • To generate an understanding of the need for care and consideration for others within our community and the wider world.
  • Provide a broad, balanced, challenging curriculum enriched with wider curriculum experiences and opportunities for learning; differentiated to, and appropriate to, the needs of the individual child to enable them to achieve their full potential academically, spiritually, morally, socially and physically.
  • To value each individual as unique and individual and made in the likeness of God, happy with the person they have become.
