Overview

The Hall is a primary school for boys and girls from the ages of four to eleven. It is an attractive and friendly school set in spacious grounds. Opened in 1967, it is so named because it was built in the grounds of Glenfield Frith Hall. The school combines the advantages of both closed and open classrooms with the flexibility of shared working areas. The school has received the accolade of four very positive reports from Ofsted following past inspections, including the most recent in May 2011. The conduct and behaviour of the pupils has been praised, along with the consistently high standard of teaching and learning. The latest Report observes that: “Pupils from all backgrounds make good, and sometimes excellent, progress because of good teaching and the outstanding curriculum, which provides a wonderful range of learning opportunities.” Children are at the heart of all that we do.

The school constantly strives to raise the standards of work, behaviour and attainment. The latest Ofsted Report describes The Hall’s overall effectiveness and capacity for sustained improvement as ‘outstanding’. It observes that: The care guidance and support of pupils is outstanding; The curriculum is outstanding; The school provides an extremely welcoming and cheerful environment where pupils feel confident and safe; and, Pupils’ good basic skills together with good attendance, maturity, self-assurance and the ability to work exceptionally well together means that pupils are particularly well prepared for the next stage of their education. The school has built its’ reputation through keeping pace with developments in education. The Hall teaches French to all children in Yrs 1-6. The school has been twice awarded the Becta Mark for ‘continuous improvement through ICT’ along with the prestigious ‘Third Millennium Learning’ Award. The breadth and range of artistic provision available has been recognised through receiving the ‘Artsmark’. The ‘FA Charter Mark’, the ‘Activemark’ and 2012 ‘Get Set’ Status reflect the quality and quantity of both curriculum and extra-curricular sporting provision. The school was the first school within the Authority to be awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark, which has been recently re-awarded. ‘Healthy Schools’ status has been conferred, as well as the ‘Eco-friendly’ Award. The Hall has been conferred with Gold ‘Sing-Up’ status. The school is the first in the East Midlands to be granted the ‘Primary Science Mark’ at Silver Standard. Very recently, the school has been awarded the Primary Geography Mark at Silver Level. The Hall has a ‘Virtual Learning Environment’ and video-conferencing facilities in its purpose-built ‘Arts & Tech’ Room. All at The Hall strive to ensure that learning is both challenging and rigorous, and yet fun. In continuing to raise standards, the partnership between home and school is vital.

As an open school we welcome parental help in many forms, and will continue to keep you fully informed through open evenings and newsletters. All parents are automatically members of The Hall Association; you are urged to support their activities, the results of which help the children in so many ways. Working in tandem with the School Council, The Hall Association has very generously funded many playground developments which have greatly enhanced the learning environment. These include the ‘Tyre Park’, the ‘Outdoor Classroom’, the ‘Sensory Garden’, the ‘Water Fountain’, the wonderful ‘all-weather Exercise Trail’ and the ‘Story-Teller’s Area.’ Most recently they have provided both an all=weather sports court and a magnificent play-ship. All at The Hall seek to promote a happy, challenging and stimulating working environment for the children. If you ever have a concern about any aspect of your child’s life at school do please let us know. I hope that you will find us welcoming, courteous and ready to listen and – where possible – to act. Here at The Hall School we have a committed and hard-working staff, supportive governors and loyal parents, who all contribute to the ethos of the school.
