Overview

The Red House Children’s Centre offers Nursery places for children aged 2 – 5 years.

Founded and opened in 1988, The Red House occupies a detached Edwardian house that has retained the homely and aesthetic qualities necessary to make children and adults feel comfortable and secure.

The current highly qualified staff embrace the uniqueness of each child and this is reflected in the fully inclusive environment. The ongoing wellbeing of children is dependent upon the value and respect that is given to their family, culture, knowledge and community; continuity and consistency of care between home and the centre setting is of paramount importance.

The Red House philosophy, practice and ethos are built on considerable knowledge and years of experience in all aspects of Early Childhood Education. This extensive experience and knowledge is built on the contributions of different professionals in Early Years across different approaches, and inspired by the latest research, with the common goal to create an unique and caring learning community. The Red House is committed to ongoing staff development and training to ensure that the highest standards in care and education are consistently met.

Learning and Education

Curriculum is a broad term for us: at The Red House it is used to describe everything that children and adults experience, learn and feel during their time here, describing both the formal and informal learning that takes place.

To us, curriculum also describes the concepts, knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills that a child develops;  when developing a curriculum equal importance is given to the design and planting of window boxes, the interior design of the nursery, the preparation of nutritious meals, the building of relationships and the planning and evaluation of purposeful learning opportunities and experiences.

As a result The Red House is renowned for its unique atmosphere - aesthetic, calm, but exciting; one in which children flourish and develop in an environment in which great emphasis is placed on nurturing, positive beliefs, aspirations, social skills, confidence and high self esteem and a love of learning; all organised with due regard for all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Red House consistently achieves ‘Outstanding’ in all aspects of provision

We are very proud that since 1996, when Ofsted first began to inspect Nursery Education, The Red House was consistently awarded the highest grades achievable for inspections, and since the 'Outstanding' judgment was introduced by Ofsted, we have consistently been graded as an 'Outstanding Nursery', maintaining this remarkable track record throughout, and including the last inspection in 2021.
