Welcome

Thank you for visiting our Career Page. I hope it will give you a flavour of what our school has to offer and what makes Thurlaston School such a special place. One of our ex-pupils put it like this:

“I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for making my time at primary school an unforgettable experience…..I realise now that I was seriously lucky to have gone to such a beautiful school where the pupils and teachers are not just pupils and teachers but a massive family who look out for people and treat each other with respect and kindness.”

We are proud of our Christian ethos which ensures that each child is treated as special and individual. Though our academic results are good we strive to ensure that our children leave us as well-balanced and enthusiastic children.

About Us

We are a popular village school on the outskirts of Leicester with a Good Ofsted Rating. Our children's behaviour is outstanding. All our classes are mixed age and are supported by highly skilled learning support assistants. Our teachers are hard working and experienced and work well as a small school team.

Ofsted 2017 highlights:

"The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. You have ensured that there is a positive culture by setting high expectations for staff and pupils to succeed. The values of justice, trust, friendship, perseverance, compassion and generosity are evident in the school and known well by pupils. Pupils are well cared for and they work hard. Several parents told me that the school has a ‘family feel’ to it, and one remarked, ‘It is a lovely, welcoming school. My children are thriving here.’"

"You have a dedicated and knowledgeable staff. They are committed to ensuring that pupils in their classes achieve well. They are passionate about their areas of extra responsibility. For example, the leader for special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities has clear systems in place to ensure that any pupil who falls behind is identified quickly and given the help they need to catch up."

"Pupils are polite, respectful and enthusiastic learners. They told me that bullying is extremely rare and that behaviour is good, both in classes and on the playground. They enjoy the weekly ‘gold award’ assemblies when certificates are presented to pupils who have recently worked hard or consistently displayed the school’s values."

History

The School was first established in 1833 by the Rector of Thurlaston. In 1853 the building was erected at a cost of £1000. This was built for 70 pupils of both sexes. In 1855 the infant school was added and 100 pupils were receiving free education. The Trust Deed which is lodged at Church House, Leicester is dated 19th April 1853.

Further additions have been made to the buildings over the years. Now the school is a voluntary aided Church of England School supported by both the Local Authority and the Diocese of Leicester.

Visits to the school are welcome.
