Overview

WCPS, also know locally as 'Squirrels', is a very popular pre-prep school for boys aged 4-7 years and is within the foundation of King's College School, Wimbledon. It benefits from significant investment from King's College School and our buildings and facilities are excellent. We have an enviable repuation and an outstanding record of gaining places for many of our boys at King's and other leading preparatory schools.

We provide a well-structured education that aims to instil a love of learning in a friendly, welcoming and attractive environment. We believe that each boy brings his own talents and gifts that will be valued, nurtured and developed through the dynamic and stimulating curriculum that we offer.

The Independent Schools Inspection team says...

‘Wimbledon Common Prep School is exceptionally successful in meeting its aims of creating a love of learning and good study skills amongst its pupils.’

‘The quality of all aspects of its work has been transformed since the previous inspection.’

About Us

The School was founded in 1919 as a preparatory school for King's College School (KCS) and other public schools. The premises were originally in Wimbledon High Street but in 1957 the then owner acquired the current building on the Ridgway, opposite KCS, where the school is now situated in a lovely building with a large playground area surrounded by trees near Wimbledon Village and the Common.

The School remained in the hands of the Turner family until June 2006 when it was purchased by KCS. WCPS has an excellent reputation and feeds pupils through to King’s and many other respected schools such as Colet Court, Dulwich College, Rokeby, Shrewsbury House, Feltonfleet and Milbourne Lodge.

Aims:

  • Provide a safe, challenging, stimulating, caring and sharing environment which is sensitive to the needs of all boys.
  • Provide a broad, balanced, relevant and creative curriculum that will set in place firm foundations for future learning and development in Key Stage 1 and beyond.
  • Provide opportunities for the boys to learn through planned, purposeful play in all areas of learning and development, to use and value what each boy can do, assessing their individual needs and helping each of the boys to develop at their own pace.
  • Enable and encourage choice and decision-making, fostering independence and self - confidence.
  • Work in close partnership with parents and carers and value their contributions.

Working for Us

Our parents see KCJS as a friendly, professional and well-resourced school providing a strong all-round education that is based on academic excellence. Boys here are bright, inquisitive, busy and engaged and they achieve a great deal but this is not a hot-house. We believe that the boys do well because they are happy and enjoy being at school. The teachers strive to ensure that their lessons are stimulating and encourage the boys to ask questions and think creatively.

If you're searching for your next teaching or support post, why not contact us now? You'll be working at a great school and be part of a friendly, helpful team. We're always interested to hear from enthusiastic, committed teachers and support staff.
