Overview

On the 19th September 2012, the Welsh Government Minister for Education and Skills announced his approval of the plan submitted by Carmarthenshire County Council for the reorganisation of secondary education in the Dinefwr area. In September 2013, I was proud to open our new school, Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, which operated on two sites: the Tre-Gib campus and the Pantycelyn campus. This was an exciting time for us all. Pupils and students have been fully involved in designing our new uniform and sports kit, creating our new logo and motto and choosing a name for our new school. In September 2016 we moved into the new building. We currently have 1149 pupils on roll, including 197 in the Sixth Form. We are building on the strengths of developing a vibrant learning community and providing the highest quality of education to our pupils. A wide range of opportunities are available to all, and our pupils and students are encouraged to develop their interests and talents. High standards are very important to us, not just in terms of examination performance, but in everything that we do.

About Us

AIMS Ysgol Bro Dinefwr aims to be an outstanding bilingual school where pupils and students enjoy learning, achieve highly and enter into the adult world with confidence. We aim to produce an environment that encourages every pupil and student to develop qualities of self-discipline, organisation and motivation. We will develop a positive ethos and learning culture throughout the school community with a commitment to continual improvement and meeting the very highest expectations. We will encourage a strong and effective partnership with parents and the local community. The school will develop the literacy, creativity and bilingual communication skills necessary for pupils to access the curriculum and take a full part in society. We will take every opportunity to reward pupils and enhance their self esteem whilst supporting one another in demanding the highest academic and social standards. We will offer a broad and balanced curriculum which evolves to reflect the needs of pupils and the demands of modern society. OBJECTIVES To develop in each pupil: Self-esteem and a feeling of self worth. A healthy lifestyle and physical and mental well being. Care and respect for people and the environment in a context of social, moral, multi-cultural and spiritual awareness. The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, developing a sensitivity to other people’s needs and points of view. A responsibility for their own learning and actions. An awareness of the modern world, and an environmental and aesthetic appreciation of it. The ability and confidence to communicate effectively. This includes the development of bilingual skills and the key skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT. A sound scientific and technological understanding. The ability to understand and analyse information. The ability to apply skills and knowledge to solve problems. A creative and enquiring mind committed to life-long learning.
