AIMS OF THE SCHOOL The school’s motto “Egni a Lwydd” (Success through Endeavour) forms the basis of Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi ’s principles, vaiues and ethos. Our guiding principle is for every student to succeed. We believe that success is achieved through hard work, and our aim is to provide high quality education within a broad, balanced, relevant and challenging curriculum which ensures opportunities for all pupils to be successful. These are our main objectives: • To ensure high standards of learning and  teaching in order to fully develop every pupil’s potential and to prepare them for the challenges of the future. • To provide a variety of opportunities and experiences to allow all pupils to develop as confident and successful learners with positive attitudes towards learning that will enable them to become responsible individuals and active members of society. • To respect and nurture all pupils and care for their needs through developing constructive relationships between all individuals who contribute to the life and work of the school. • To develop our pupils’ language skills to enable them to participate fully in a society where both Welsh and English are used as a means of communication. • To encourage pupils to have spiritual and moral values and tolerance of other races, religions and ways of life. • To help pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally, and to solve problems methodically. • To nurture amongst all pupils awareness of and pride in the culture, heritage and traditions of Wales in order to extend their horizons, as well as their knowledge of the relationship between Wales, Europe and the world. We aim to achieve these aims and objectives within the framework of the Young People in Wales Rights to Action Seven Core Aims i.e. that they: • Have a fl ying start in life and the best possible basis for their future growth and development. • Have a comprehensive range of education and learning opportunities including acquisition of essential personal and social skills. • Enjoy the best possible health and are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation. • Have access to play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities. • Are listened to, treated with respect, and have their race and cultural identity recognised. • Have a safe home and a community which supports physical and emotional wellbeing. • Are not disadvantaged by poverty.
