What qualifications do I need to be a supply teacher?
You are required to complete a UK recognised Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) after receiving your Bachelor’s degree - exactly the same as if you were working as a full-time teacher. However, you do not need a formal qualification to become a teaching assistant.
I've recently qualified, but haven't completed my induction period yet - can I be a supply teacher?
Supply work is a great opportunity for newly qualified teachers or Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who are yet to secure a permanent teaching position. It's important to note that you can only do short-term supply teaching for five years until you must complete your induction if you wish to continue teaching in a state-maintained school.
