Our Values and Visions Langley Mill Academy is dedicated to ensuring every child attains their full potential, both in terms of attaining academic excellence and achieving social responsibility.

We achieve this by continually striving to eliminate all barriers to learning, enabling children to feel safe and secure in a vibrant, high-quality learning environment.

At Langley Mill we have high expectations of our children, instilling within them core values of respect, hard work, good behaviour and a passion for learning and future aspiration. Our Live, Laugh and Learn motto helps us all remember the six 'We are' statements.

These are:

  • Live - We are respectful and safe.
  • Laugh - We are caring and friendly.
  • Learn - We are enthusiastic and responsible.

We embed the Values for Life in Modern Britain of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance in our curriculum.

Langley Mill values the school-home partnership as essential in helping pupils achieve their best. By working and communicating effectively with parents and carers, we ensure students’ achievements and needs are recognised, celebrated and met in a positive, inclusive learning environment.

About us

Langley Mill Academy, previously know as "Langley Mill Junior School", was built in 1971. The junior pupils transferred from the previous site on Sedgwick Street which is now Langley Mill C of E Infant and Nursery School.

The school has a current capacity of 340 places, rising to 360 in September 2021, including an 8 place Enhanced Resource Facility for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Pupils. Currently we have 282 children on roll including the Enhanced Resource as part of our provision.

The school backs on to the playing field of Aldercar High School where many of our pupils transfer to at age 11.

Our site has a large field with two football pitches, several garden areas, a good sized playground, trim trail, tyre park, the ‘’volcano’’ and Karl's Garden which was built in memory of one of our former pupils.

Some of our former pupils have returned to work at the school which has a real community atmosphere.

On 1st February 2018 the school converted to an Academy and joined with Djanogly Learning Trust. In October 2019 a new build, called the Long Lea building, was opened which houses three new classrooms and facilities for our expanding school.

Forest School

Every week, groups of children spend the afternoon exploring the outdoors as part of our Forest School Programme.

What is Forest School?

It's long-term; it has high staffing ratios working with small groups of children; it takes place in the outdoors; it is lead by a qualified level 3 Forest School Leaders, who works together with at least one other adult; it takes place on a weekly basis with the same learners attending the whole process; and it involves an understanding of how children learn and supports them to build confidence, resilience, independence and creativity. Also, it's REALLY fun! Have a look at our photos to see what we get up to at Forest School!
