Overview

We are a large multi-cultural primary school with a friendly and caring staff who work hard for its continued success and are highly committed to ensuring the best for the children in our care.

Launde is a successful school which aims to meet the needs of all children and there is dedicated team of staff who work extremely hard to achieve this aim.

The children have developed wildlife and outdoor activity areas and are always involved in any new projects. Class teachers are responsible for the children’s welfare and delivery of the curriculum. Work is planned jointly, in year group of generally three teaching staff with close liaison, communication and support from our teaching assistants.

During planning, the year group staff share the preparation of work, drawing on different experiences, knowledge and expertise to ensure work is relevant and well matched to meet the needs of the children.  In this way, we are able to utilise the strengths of a large staff team and enhance the quality of learning and teaching at Launde.

At our school, we think it is very important that our pupils develop a strong set of values and principles and that they question and understand what it means to grow up in British society. Through a rich and challenging curriculum and through a focus on key events, we encourage pupils to reflect upon their role in society. We have developed the following statement which we feel encompasses our approach:

'Our balance of academic excellence and opportunities underpins our aspirational expectations and provides pupils with the skill, attitudes and confidence required to lead highly successful lives in modern Britain. The promotion of equality and diversity within our schools assists us in the embedding of the British values of tolerance, fairness, respect for other faiths, and the rule of law and democracy.'

About Us

The word “Launde” is Norman-French, and means the space between two woods. Our school crest contains the Bishops Mitre, trees and a bible, all of which pertain to our geographic link with the once great Launde Abbey.

Our school is situated in the heart of Oadby; it has two main buildings and several other types of smaller blocks making a total of 18 classes. We are an oversubscribed three-form entry school with a total of 630 pupils. There is a separate library, canteen and kitchen area and extensive grounds which contain a football pitch, a rounders field, a five - a - side pitch and two adventure playgrounds.  The pupils at Launde come from a variety of different backgrounds, which is a strength of the school.  Over 8 different languages are spoken.

All applications to the school are subject to satisfactory references and DRB clearance following the guidelines set by the Dfe.

'As a new member of staff and an NQT I was very nervous about the prospect of beginning my career in teaching.  I need not have worried because at Launde everyone within the school structure is incredibly supportive and there is advice is required. This coupled with welcoming staff and hard-working and friendly children have made this a fantastic and rewarding first year, with many more to come.’   (Nathan Squires – Teacher)

‘From the moment I walked through the door, the staff here at Launde were very welcoming.  Although the school is on a large site with many different buildings, both staff and children were very supportive and caring and I soon settled in and found my way around!  The first thing that I noticed was that the children behave very well and they are keen to work and do their very best.  It has been lovely to get to know the staff and to see the very many creative ideas they have to inspire the children’s learning.  The caring ethos is really evident anywhere you go around the school, staff going out of their way to help the children enjoy school as well as arranging a great number of visitors, school visits and residentials to enhance their learning further.’ (Kathryn Priddey - Head of School)
